I haven't played for about a month and a half. I had school, lots of exams and then after those I was studying for my A+ technicians exams (which I passed, woot!). Then in that mix was a bad case of the flu, a lot of difficult classes (college r hard), and numerous other obligations I put ahead of my gaming time. I missed the past few patches, and wondered if anything really significant has happened? Gameplay didn't seem too different to me, but I could SWEAR I saw a mech get knocked down in a match today. Did they add knockdowns back in? Oh, and I ran into a few Thunderbolts and they seem pretty solid. Anything else I should be aware of?

Knockdowns aren't active, but some patches ago mechs started to jump when they being destroyed, wich looks really weird.
I think nothing big has changed last month. (aside from the phoenix patch)
Gratulations on passing your exams

Dunno when exactly you left - 3PV is new? And that pseudo-lobby thing before the game launched. Ghost Heat? (Weapons producing more heat than the sum of their heat, based on some fancy math.)

Latest thing to be on the test server was Direct X11 support. Not sure when it's ready for prime time.

"ow these points of data make a beautiful line. And we're out of beta; we're releasing on time" *lalala*

FYI, I had no problem with PPCs when everyone was crying. SO I have no problem with ACs right now either :(

I was here for ghost heat, 3pv, andthe ready button. DX11, nope. I'm wanting to get my grubby hands on that feature asap.

I agree. So long as you didn't charge out in the open you were just fine, and once you closed on a PPC boat you would usually win the fight. I don't think PPCs needed such a hard swing from the nerf bat. The minimum range, OK. Made them stay a sniper's weapon. But such a drastic heat penalty was a bit unwarranted, imho.

Edit: Sorry, I didn't notice the part about ACs. While PPCs made for deadly sniper boats before the heat nerf, they had some drawbacks that made them beatable if you got in close and used cover properly. I find that autocannons in the 5-10 range and MASSED AC2s (to a lesser extent) don't suffer from anything but ammo per weight issues. It doesn't matter much if your right in somebody's face or half way across the map with autocannons, your still just as dangerous. Add to this the cockpit shake and vision-obscuring smoke they produce, and you have a lot of advantages. I think, (with the exception of the AC20 which is already slow as hell to fire, hot, very heavy, AND pretty short ranged for an AC compared to the others) they all need a RANGE nerf. They can always beat PPC and gauss boats right now at long range, which shouldn't happen. That's why we don't see hardly any snipers any more. I say reduce AC range only. Slightly beef up gauss and PPC damage. Just a point or two. Make the short-range weapons a bit more damaging in their very short ranges, and everything will balance out in a nice rock-paper scissors of range roles. Just my little two cents about what I think would improve the game for everyone. Sorry for the long edit, lol.

Squirrelled away in the deep dark underbellies of the forums, there's actually a subforum for patch notes. It includes the current patch notes, and all the old ones back to open beta start.

That said, month and a half? PGI doesn't move fast enough for you to have missed much :(

Mcchugger any weapon can be deadly if you pack enough of them. If we used PPCs in the intended 2-4 Ghost Heat would not have happened. 4 AC2s is just a sandblaster. I have no hate for any weapon system, I just know that to much of a good thing will ruin a good thing.

^^All true but, as we well know, people are going to stretch and abuse the system as much as they can in a competitive multiplayer to get an edge. You have to have good boundaries and balance because people will ALWAYS try and break the game and can't be expected to play nice. Hell, I constantly tweak my builds, and try and squeeze every bit of firepower/weight/heat efficiency out of my mechs that I can. Not hating on ACs at all, I just want to see everything balanced so not everyone who is competitive is using the same things. Bring back the variety, you know?

I looked for the patch notes before asking, but could only find the latest ones. Thanks! I shall be bookmarking this.

Apparently we are getting MG and SL turrets around the new year. At least it's something.
